2005.10.14 - IMAX Movie

The Shadow Lady went to a volleyball game with a friend of hers, so I rounded up  Les, and we went to an IMAX movie, "Walking on the Moon", a 3D movie trying to convince folks we've been there (Yep, I'm one of the disbelievers), and get people charged up about going back.

The IMAX theater we went to is at the Pacific Science Center.  We stopped by the Center House for food before heading to the theater, and I managed to catch a cool snap of the Space Needle with the Center House sign in the foreground.

The weird arches look even weirder in the reflections they make in the water... we had some time to kill off, so we walked around the exhibits in the IMAX Lobby, which is part of the Science Center, and checked out a few of the displays...

They have a section of a "Smoker", which is an undersea chimney of sorts.

Formed around the hot vents caused by upwelling magma in the spreading Juan de Fuca Ridge, these towering chimneys spew black, hot water, like smokestacks, providing habitat for life that is not based on the Sun, but on the chemical deposits and heat from the core of the Earth.

The crushed Styrofoam cup is quite interesting... there's a LOT of pressure down below!!!

When it got closer to the movie time, we went down to the theater...

Since it was a 3D movie, we had to get the special glasses.

They have new one's actually.  This was the first movie that they were being used in... the usher handing them out thought they were pretty snazzy, and even modeled them for us.

They were more comfortable than the older, bulkier versions...

But, you end up looking just as dorky with them on... or maybe that's just the way I am!  :-)

We had a good time, and the movie itself wasn't badly done at all.
