2005.09.24 - Just a "sMac" of DC Talk
< Back to Currently

The Shadow Lady came up with some tickets to Toby Mac, who was the 'lead', if you will, of DC Talk, a Christian Contemporary group that broke up 3 years ago. The three singers in the group met while at Liberty College (Jerry Falwell's Church-sponsored school), and have been friends ever since...

We found out afterwards that Kevin Max and Michael Tait, the other two members of the group, were going to be singing also, albeit separately... The three had not been in the same place at the same time since they split the group up.  It seemed that things were going to be awesome!

The drive there was VERY nice... there was an excellent view of Mt Rainier over Lake Washington from the floating bridge, and there wasn't much traffic.

"KMax" started it off... an interesting blend of metal, rock and roll, and Christ... he had sort of a "Bono" flair about him at times... it was pretty interesting.
Tait was next... he was awesome.  He started out with Electric Avenue... and things got better from there!   Sort of soul, sort of old-school rock, and some great messages in his songs... of the three individual, I think I enjoyed his set the best.

(No I wasn't that close... I managed to catch a good shot of the Jumbo Tron)

Toby Mac was ALIVE!

I'm not really into his type of music, but he did very well, was extremely energetic, engaged the crowd, and was very enjoyable.

As a bonus, I got to see yet ANOTHER side of the Shadow Lady, who thought he was awesome!

I last saw Toby Mac when he opened for Third Day in Everett...  He put on a great show then, too.

After Toby left the stage, the chant rang out... "DC Talk!!! DC Talk!!!"

After a bit of suspense, the lights came on, and for the first time in 3 years, the three were together on stage.

They sang the DC Talk songs "Jesus Freaks", and "In the Light"... they sound TOTALLY different together!   In all...

It was a GREAT night!
