2005.08.26 - Fingerlings in Olympia |

I had to go to Olympia to take care of some loose ends, and stopped by the
4th avenue bridge, and the Capital Lake Dam, to see if any Salmon were
running yet. They were... but it was the salmon running the other
way... fingerlings, heading for the sea... the salmon that would be
returning in 3-5 years or so. |

Olympia's 5 Avenue doubles as the dam that holds back the waters of the
Deschutes River, which turns the muddy mouth into a lake. On the
northern end of the dam, an opening allows the fresh water out of the
lake, and into Budd Inlet, the harbor for Olympia. |

In the "Mix" areas, there were thousands of fingerlings, getting used to
the oxygen levels and saltiness of the salt waters of the Sound. |

Somehow, Jellyfish must know this is going to happen, because there were
LOTS of them in the very same mix areas... they were snagging the small
fish, either on purpose or by accident, in droves. Somehow, I don't
think it was just a coincidence that they were there... |
