August 13, 2005 - A Sunset at Rainier
< Back to Currently

August 13th, a Saturday, was a hot day!  We worked at the church, doing clean up both inside and outside... "Dead-heading Roddy's" was only one of the tasks that needed done...

Afterwards, we decided to take a drive in my truck, and take advantage of the air conditioning... we drove up to Chinook Pass, near Mt Rainier, to go for a walk, and to see if we couldn't take in an excellent sunset.

Driving in the Cascades is probably the biggest reason I love the Pacific Northwest so much!  It's so amazing, and incredibly relaxing...  The perfect activity to clear the mind.

For the both of us, it was exactly what we needed...

Once we were at Chinook Pass, we parked next to Tipsoo Lake, and stretched our legs for a bit...

Tipsoo lake has long been a favorite stop for folks visiting the foothills of Mt Rainier.  The route through the Chinook Pass has always been quite popular, even though its a more difficult route than Snoqualmie Pass, mostly because the views are so much more stunning.

There's been varying degree of concern for the meadows and waters of the lake... once the National Park was opened, care and concern for the wildlife and fauna has greatly improved!

There's a lot of very nice trails around the lake, and nearby Naches Peak, all affording excellent views of Mt Rainier.

Since the sun was setting, we decided to take a walk along the short trail around the lake, and watch the sunset...

Along the trail around the lake, we ran across a surprising number of tiny frogs... they looked almost like insects at first... they were no bigger than the tip of my finger.

The lake itself is very clear, and quite stunning, especially when there's not a lot of wind...

It wasn't too long before the sunset really started to kick in... it was truly awesome!
We didn't really want it to end, but of course it did...

The final shot of the mountain doesn't do it justice, but I hope you can get the idea!

The drive home was fun... bright stars, and not a lot of traffic... it really made for a nice weekend, to be sure!
