We went to Westport to check out the sunset, and to get a basket of
oysters from 'the source', my name for a otherwise nondescript Drive In
food stand that delivers the best oysters in the area, in my humble
opinion. Shortly after arriving, we made the cursory stops to the Westport Lighthouse and the Maritime Museum. |

Outside the museum, several displays are set up behind a large outdoor
glass display, highlighting various tidbits of history for the town... This anchor was recovered near an island off the coast. Its of early 1800's design, and is known as a "Kedge", "Old Style", or "Admiralty Anchor". The ship, most assuredly under a British flag, is unknown. It weighs approximately 500 lbs. There is no recording of Admiral Vancouver having lost an anchor, but then, maybe wasn't really a big deal back then. |

There's several skeleton displays of the various sea creatures
that call the waters around Westport home. One interesting display was of a pair of NIKE shoes, and a NIKE hockey glove. In the 1990's, a storm knocked about 40 or so containers off the deck of a cargo ship... those containers opened, spilling their contents. The NIKE shoes and gloves have washed up at various locations along the US Pacific Coast. They have become an unorthodox tool to study Ocean Currents. |

After procuring the famed oysters, we set out on the Westport
Lighthouse Trail system, which takes you out to the Dunes in
front of the landlocked lighthouse, and leads you to the
beach, to enjoy the sunset. The view back to the lighthouse was spectacular! The oysters were quite spectacular as well. |

It was a BEAUTIFUL day for watching the sunset! The moon was up, the
sky was mostly blue, and the clouds that were out were interesting. The beach is backed by a 3000 foot dune, which has built up since the construction of the lighthouse, which was in the late 1800's. There also was a sun halo, visible in the clouds near the sun... very impressive! |

The sunset, and the company I had the great opportunity to share it with, was wonderful! | |

I found a spot along the beach with lots of flat rocks, and
took the opportunity to hone my rock-skipping skills... you
never know when that one will come in handy, so I like to
stay ready...

The views on the walk back were equally as spectacular... it
was sad that it had to end...
One thing that made it easier to leave... they'll be lots of others, each one different than the one before. |
