2005.06.17 - The Mets come to town
< Back to Currently

The New York Mets came to town for a series of interleague play... Thankfully, the ticket pack we got at the beginning of the season had us going to the first game of the series, which also happened to be the game that Jamie Moyer pitched...

It was "City of Seattle" night... and Seattle's Mayor threw out the game ball...

Baseball, on a warm June afternoon, outside, on grass... what a fantastic way to spend a Friday!!!

The thirdbaseman for the game was Lopez, who we watched last weekend playing for the Tacoma Rainiers... he was called up for the game to stand in for Beltrade, who pulled his hamstring.

He did VERY well, making a great jumping play, making it over to the line with plenty of time to get one that bounced over the plate, and making the tag on a Met runner trying to steal third, who as you can see below was out by a country mile!

Pat Borders, the M's Catcher is 42, and Jamie is 43... they are the oldest duo in baseball, but they are VERY hard to steal against.

Ichiro watches the pitcher... moments later, he was streaking towards second... on the very next pitch, he was on third... the ended up having a great game.

The grounds keepers danced their jig... and the Moose got water thrown on him as he passed the Mariners Bullpen on his ATV... Baseball at Safeco Field already has tradition...

Jamie was awesome, going 8 2/3 innings.  He doesn't throw hard, but he is quite masterful in putting the ball exactly where he wants to, and can either get frustrated batters to pop one up, or swing at a miserable pitch, and end up looking a bit silly...

He was replaced by Nellie, who promptly beaned someone...

It was pretty electric as the game ended... a 5 run lead will do that!  Moyer, with the win, became the winningest pitcher in Mariner History.

The M's went on to sweep the Mets... they, as odd as it seems, have the best record when it comes to Interleague play.  If they ever DO make it to the World Series, it looks like they might actually have a good chance to WIN it!

After the game, we boarded the bus to the park and ride... and the great night came to an end... counting the days until the next game!
