The last trip I took to Mt St Helens, I was denied a view of the
Crater... which is why I went! So, on a Saturday where Accuweather said it'd be sunny in Castle Rock, a nearby town, I headed
out early in the morning, before everyone was up, and went down to see
what there was to see. Things started out great! No traffic, and
fairly clear skies..
As I got to the Toutle River valley, it was foggy... that's OK,
though... most of the Pacific Northwest is foggy in the mornings during
the Fall and Winter... |

Weyerhaeuser has apparently finished putting up its new signage.
They are
much more visible than the older signs... The
rain we've been having has really increased the amount of flow in the
various streams along 504, and in the Toutle Valley |

The snow line was at around 3000 feet or so... Passing through the
Hoffstadt Bluff, about 3800 feet, put you over it. It was quite
nice, actually. |

But, just like last weekend, the weather man was wrong... it
was overcast, and it was misting a sort of ice rain... it
looked as if it might have broken up, but I didn't have the
time to hang around... oh, well, next time! :-)
Below, I'm testing out the zoom on my new camera...
Coldwater Creek Observatory was right at the snow line...
its about 10 miles away from where I was... |
