When plant material gets trapped under the surface, it gets compacted, and
begins to break down. With time, materials such as coal and oil
are formed.
Another of these materials is natural gas, and after an earthquake in
the 1950's cracked the ground above a pocket of natural gas in the Green
River Valley... a few geysers of natural gas formed, and some of the
larger ones are in this park... |

The park is criss-crossed with walking and hiking trails, and
its a great place to enjoy the river. OK... so its not
REAL impressive... But it is really interesting.
There's a park ranger near the geyser to re-light the flame,
should wind, or kids, blow it out. |
