1999. Is this the last year of the 19th century, or is 2000?
Either way, we're almost into the 21st Century! Come back here periodically... as things happen, I'll add them to this page... after this year is done, I'll rename it, and it'll be a "history" page. |

|
I stopped updating this page after I got to Washington. I thought my
family wasn't reading them, so it wasn't worth it... but they told me
they were, and wanted me to keep them up, so I restarted doing them at
the beginning of 2000.

| 1999.08 - Got a job | |
|
While I was driving back, I managed to get a Job at SAFECO insurance. VERY
cool! I did the interview on my cell phone while I was watching Old Faithful erupt; how cool is that!?

This was an AWESOME sunset! Omaha Zoo Continental Divide This was dumb... I was driving at night, real tired, and I blinded myself with the flash. I don't know what prompted me to take a picture of myself while driving, but I regretted it! luckily I stopped OK! :)

| 1999.08 - Leaving for the Northwest | |

The project is nearing its end, and certain events have happened that make
it so that I don't want to ask for a contract extension... I contacted a
head-hunter, and they're going to find me a job in Seattle. I'm
heading back to the PNW! |

| 1999.07 - Drought, except for where I am... | |
|
I checked the Climate Prediction Center map... seems most of the country
is in a drought, except for the midwest and the Pacific North West -
well, the Puget Sound area, anyway.
I thought that was pretty interesting.

I did it. I went back to Ft Riley Kansas. Well, almost. I drove through it on the highway... close enough for me! :)
I went up to the "Atomic Canon", which is on top of a hill in a park across the highway from the Fort
its a rare location in the Midwest where you can actually get someplace and see for some distance...

here's me, by a big ball of string, in Cawker City, IA. According to
the town, its the largest ball of string in the world.

Well, I can now say I've eaten in the same restaurant as Jesse James This is Brietbach's Country Diner, in Balltown, IA. It was established in 1852 by federal permit issued by President Filmore, the diner is the oldest in Iowa. The original family still owns and operates the diner.

| 1999.02 - Oregon Trail, of all things! | |

Things are well here in Iowa. Went to Dubuque, which is on the banks of the Mississippi... apparently, they were an early stop on the Oregon Trail, which I thought was funny!
Me, Buddy, and Shawna (both fellow attendees at the Des Moines coC), do what the sign on the wall said... "Get in and act like you're paddling"!
A bridge over the Mighty Mississippi... its colder than it looks.

There's been a good amount of snow lately, and we're due for some more.
Its MUCH different than back in Oregon, that's for sure!

| 1999 - New Year, old Century | |
|
Welcome to 1999! This is the first month of the last year of this
century. unless you count 2000 as part of the 20th century, which I
guess technically it is. Was there a year "0", I wonder? was
1900 the first of the 20th century??? that's too deep, for me,
anyway! Anyway, 1999 is here already! :)
