wow. 1998. Time flies! Hopefully I'll get the hang of doing this on a regular basis! if I forget for too long, let me know! Come back here periodically. as things happen, I'll add them to this page. after this year is done, I'll rename it, and it'll be a "history" page.

| 1998.12 - Its been a good year, for the most part | |
Well, 1998 is ending. I'm in good health, I have a good job, and
don't have a lot to complain about. Hopefully, most years will end
that way, eh? Have a great holiday season, and I hope you're all looking forward to the new year!

| 1998.11 - things are getting colder, that's for sure! | |
Took a tour of the NWS building here in Des Moines... FUN stuff!
they're showing off their new computer system ATWS, and their radio system ARES
A new radar system, NEXRAD, is replacing the older
AFOS system Until the ATWS/NEXRAD systems come up fully online, these AFOS systems will continue to hold the line.

| 1998.10 - Train Ride | |
A postcard shot of an earlier time!
the train does an "out and back", which takes about 2 hours or so... its VERY fun!
The track follows the river for most of the way. at one point it crosses the Des Moines on a trestle bridge, venting its steam as it does... when the angle is right, you can see a rainbow in the steam... we took the "sunset run", so we got to see it.

| 1998.10 - John Wayne's House | |
How awesome is this? Marion Morrison was born here... he's the guy
we know as John Wayne!
| 1998.10 - cooling off, having fun here in the midwest | |
Went to Minnesota for a road trip... had a great time!
St Paul's Cathedral in St Paul, MN... imagine that!
one of the very famous rose windows in the cathedral
Buddy, a friend of mine from the church I attend in Des Moines, took a rare picture of me at the Capital.
the capital building is pretty impressive!
Its cooling off quick here... it'll be snowing soon, and not long after that, I'll be complaining of the cold!
| 1998.09 - At the Center of it all! | |
Things are going well... working a lot, dealing with the heat. This is the geographic center of the USA... how cool is that!?!
Its in Kansas... I went exploring a bit. I went there when I was stationed in Ft Riley, but didn't have any pictures from that trip - so I just had to go back!
| 1998.08 - Burning up in Iowa | |
MAN its hot here! It was 107 the day I arrived! Its backed
away from that a bit, but almost every day it either reaches or gets to
almost 100 - and the humidity levels are un-real!
| 1998.07 - Heading to IOWA | |
I'm heading to Iowa... the company I worked for changed the way it did
things, and it didn't match up with what I was doing. So, in a couple of weeks, I should be going to Iowa, to work for Firestone.
| 1998.05 - Ticks! | |
Seems that ticks are making a play here in the PNW. There's been a couple
of folks getting some sort of flu-type symptoms and some skin problems.
"African Tick-Bite Fever", they're calling it. I'm not worried here... we have deer in our yard almost every day, but I haven't gotten a tick, so I doubt its much of a problem in these parts; its cold, damp, and drizzly most of the time; not exactly "Tick Country".

| 1998.02 - Light house run | |
Went for a drive down the Oregon Coast to check out some lighthouses: Blanco
Coquille Umpqua River Yaquina Bay
Yaquina Head
They'll be in my Lighthouse section soon... |
| 1998.01 - Flooding Update | |
You'll be happy to know that the flooding this year isn't nearly as bad as
it was last year.
